Manchester International Festival
This was a second year group project set by the organisers of Manchester International Festival. We were asked to design the interiors for the two glass houses which would be situated at 'Festival Square' (Albert Square) for the duration of the festival.
As a group we decided to focus on using the mediterranean colours which we were told were a key feature of that years festival design. Mosaic was also a major inspiration as this is something we felt would represent the mediterranean theme. We were also very mindful that this was an international festival so wanted to make sure this was highlighted through our design ideas.
After a dragon's den style pitch to the organisers of the Festival at MIF HQ, which I lead. My groups ideas were selected to be carried forward to be used within the final design. Below are photos from the festival.
Below is the final banner that I helped to create to show how the groups ideas and designs came together to make a cohesive concept with tangible design ideas.
Below are dividers and lighting that I created using string, twine and glue. I thought that the dividers would be ideal within the glass houses to separate spaces in order to make people feel like they had more privacy when socialising with friends, however, they would still allow light to penetrate through the holes created.
Another aspect of the project which I was in charge of was planning the table sizes and layouts for the two different glass houses, as they were going to be used for different functions.
Glass House A was a more formal space and had to seat 60 covers so it was important to get the size of the tables right so that there was enough room for people to pass between the tables.
Glass House B was a less formal space that would mainly be used by people socialising with friends whilst having a drink, this meant that it was important to try and create separated spaces so that people could have a more intimate experience with friends and colleagues.
